What is a hybrid school? Today’s hybrid schools merge many different educational methods. SEA offers a combination of the best that traditional Catholic schools have to offer along with the flexibility of homeschooling. Hybrid schools have sprung up all over the country and they are legal in Texas. These schools work well both for parents wanting a traditional Catholic school and also for homeschooling parents who are looking for more structure.
Is St. Edwards Academy accredited? While hybrid schools are not required to be accredited in the state of Texas, SEA does use Seton Home Study materials which are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and by AdvancED. To learn more about Seton Home Study, please go to their website at: http://www.setonhome.org. Students who are also registered with Seton Home Study can earn an accredited high school diploma.
Are students required to register with Seton as well as SEA? No, it is not required. Seton registration is separate from SEA registration and while not required, students may pursue an accredited Seton Home Study High School Diploma while taking classes at SEA.
What subjects do you teach? We offer a complete program both for elementary school and for our high school program. Elementary subjects include Reading, Composition, Vocabulary, Spelling, Geography, English Grammar, Handwriting, Latin, Math, Science, History and Religion. High school subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, all with labs, Latin, Spanish, American Government, American History, World History, Economics, four years of Religion, Math including Algebra I and II, Geometry and Advanced Math, and English including composition and English literature.
Will Latin be offered as part of the curriculum?
The cornerstone of a classical education is Latin. Far from being a dead language, Latin is alive and well and since 60 percent of the English language comes directly from Latin, we speak it every day. Will my child be able to get into a good college if they graduate from SEA? Absolutely! The Seton curriculum which SEA will be using is a college prep program and Seton students do better on SAT scores and ACT scores than the national average. The Seton website provides a long list of the colleges and Universities that Seton students have been accepted into and the colleges which have awarded scholarships to Seton students.
Does SEA offer Sacrament Preparation? For members of St. Edward’s Parish, enrollment in SEA functions as another section of Faith Formation. Your child will not have to attend any of the Faith Formation classes. If you attend a different parish, however, please check with your pastor on sacrament requirements.
What other costs besides tuition should we expect? In addition to tuition, a simple uniform is required. Parents are also required to send a lunch each day. Books and school supplies are purchased by parents. High school students will have a lab fee for science classes.

About St. Edward's Academy

The Very Rev Nolan LowrySt. Edward’s Academy is a Christ-Centered, Catholic, K—12, hybrid school, working in partnership wants to provide a quality, Catholic education to each student. Using Seton Home Study materials and all subjects being taught from a Catholic perspective, teachers present lessons in the main academic subjects for grades K—8 and offer a comprehensive four year high school curriculum for grades 9—12. We meet each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:45 am to 3:00 pm throughout the school year, and we offer class instruction, guided discussions, graded assignments and quarterly progress reports.In addition to the scheduled school days, work is assigned for the home days each week. Parents are essential to overseeing that their child’s homework is completed on time, and that their child understands the material and develops good study habits. Both the classroom instruction and the school work on home days are equally important for each student’s academic success.

As we work to extend the reign of Christ, it is the mission of St. Edward’s Academy to support and assist parents in the Catholic education of their children. Under the patronage of St. Edward the Confessor, and while striving for academic excellence, we will work to instill in each child an abiding love of God and neighbor. Holding up our Blessed Mother Mary as our model and guide, we will assist each other to seek eternal salvation with God in heaven.
